CeeLo is encouraging kids to go green with a new foundation, plus he’s readying a song for the NFL.
The Voice mentor will sing this year’s Thursday Night Football theme song, the NFL announced. Each week, the game will open with a 90-second fan video set to CeeLo’s “Fanthem,” which is the song “I Love Football” set to The Ramone’s “Blitzkrieg Bop.”
“It’s finally that time again…and I really love my football,” CeeLo said in a statement. “The NFL always brings us the biggest and brightest entertainment spectacle in sports and now with ‘Fanthem,’ NFL Network gives loyal fans the chance to participate!”
The videos will be specific to the night’s matchup. Thursday Night Football kicks off on September 13 when the Chicago Bears take on the Green Bay Packers. Fans can go here to upload their video dedication to their favorite team.
The Gnarls Barkley singer is also teaming up with his sister Shedonna Alexander to help spread “green education” with the GreenHouse Foundation. The program focuses on teaching children to take responsibility for their community specifically by giving the young kids the tools to create and maintain an outdoor “teaching garden.”
“With the garden as the primary focus, children will learn the fundamentals of gardening along with the health and environmental benefits of growing their own produce,” CeeLo explained in a statement. “Children will also learn how to start and manage their own school farmers market. The hands of our children will help feed those in need, like the homeless or elderly who live in ‘grocery deserts’ with no access to fresh produce.”
On August 17 in the sibling’s hometown of Atlanta, Georgia, the two will hold their first “teaching Greenhouse” event, which will take place at Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy, where CeeLo attended elementary school.
The event is dedicated to the memory of their late mother, Sheila J. Callaway Tyler, who was one of the first female firefighters with the Atlanta Fire Department and helped inspire CeeLo and his sister to volunteer.
