After debuting the song in recent live performances, breakout UK folk-rock outfit Mumford & Sons have released the first single, “I Will Wait,” from their much-anticipated second album, Babel.
The buoyant, upbeat tune is catchy and rich with vocal harmonies, much like the songs on their double-platinum 2009 debut, Sigh No More. Fans of the band will be happy to hear no traces of any Black Sabbath influence, which bassist Ted Dwane joked to Rolling Stone late last year had the band moving in a more “doom folk” direction.
“As a band, we’ve never been closer or more collaborative, all working to our strengths. And so we feel that this record is a natural progression that we’re proud of,” the band said in a press release about the album.
The official video released for the song is nothing more than a rolling shot of freeway passing beneath the wheels of a vehicle, with the clip ending on the words “Road To Red Rocks” and a plug for their special “Gentleman of the Road” dates on their current tour. Those shows are described as “a day-long event, celebrating the music, food and people of the places we’re visiting.” Upcoming stops include Dixon, Illinois on August 18th and Monterey, California on August 25. Both events are sold out.
Babel comes out via Glassnote Records on September 25.
