Tony Bennett might have turned 86 today (August 3), but he’ll always be young at heart.
Case in point, his last two albums—2006’s Duets: An American Classic and Duets II in 2011–had him teaming up with youngsters like Josh Groban and Lady Gaga. He might have a few years (or in some cases a few decades) on his singing partners but Tony doesn’t seem to care. He’s even releasing a third duets album with some of the biggest Latin stars like Marc Anthony and Gloria Estefan, aptly titled Tony Bennett: Viva Duets on October 23.
In honor of the octogenarian’s big day, CBS Local has compiled the singer’s six best duets. Which one is your favorite?
“The Lady Is A Tramp” with Lady Gaga
This Lady vamps it up for this classic duet, ditching her usual pant-less look for a floor length gown. The duo even update this old standard with a little shout-out to Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter.
“Speak Low” with Norah Jones
Ms. Jones might have gone to the dark side for her latest album, Little Broken Hearts, but this duet with Tony brings her back to her jazz roots.
“This Is All I Ask” with Josh Groban
The duo sing about aging on this mid-tempo tune. Their advice? Enjoy the simple pleasures. With how good Tony looks, I would take his word for it.
“The Way You Look Tonight” with Faith Hill
Faith and Tony slow things down for this classic love song. They even share a slow dance near the end.
“Don’t Get Around Much Anymore” with Michael Bublè
Words can’t explain how classy these two are. And yes, these two also try their hand at a slow dance.
“Body and Soul” with Amy Winehouse
This was Amy Winehouse’s final recording before her tragic death in the summer of 2011. Though she didn’t get a chance to see it released, Tony had nothing but nice things to say about the chanteuse.
“Some people think that anyone could sing jazz, but they can’t,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “It’s a gift of learning how to syncopate but it’s also a spirit that you’re either born with or you’re not. And Amy was born with that spirit.”
This fall Amy’s family is even honoring Tony through the Amy Winehouse Foundation for his ability to “inspire greatness in others.”
