Madonna has commented on her Paris concert debacle, saying fans were fine with her 45-minute show and it was a “few thugs” that ruined the night. After an abrupt end to her show last week at the Olympia Theatre that led concertgoers to demand their money back, Madonna is giving her side of the story.
In a statement on her website, she wrote:
“Playing the Olympia was a magical moment for me and it was real treat to do this special show for my fans and be so close to them. Unfortunately at the end of the show – after I left the stage – a few thugs who were not my fans rushed the stage and started throwing plastic bottles pretending to be angry fans.”
She goes on to explain that the press decided to focus on those that booed instead of the “joyous aspect of the evening.” But Madonna says, they can’t ruin the special night that her and her fans shared.
“When I looked out in the audience, everyone I saw had a smile on their face,” she wrote. “I look forward to having this wonderful experience again.”
Though the Paris show was short—45 minutes total—Madonna’s publicist, Liz Rosenberg, explained in a statement that the show was always billed as an intimate night for fans and never as a date on her current MDNA Tour.
“Madonna’s Paris club show was planned as her heartfelt thank-you to France, which she expressed at the start of her show,” said Rosenberg. She goes on to defend the pop star explaining, “Despite a grueling concert tour she desperately wanted to perform for her fans in an intimate setting at the historic Olympia as a means to honor her love for French artists, French cinema and a tribute to France’s long history of welcoming and inspiring artists, authors, painters, poets and minorities from other countries over the years.”
But a little controversy never hurt Madonna whose world tour makes its way to the States on August 28. Check here to see when the Material Girl is in your town.
