An abrupt end to Madonna’s concert in Paris last night led fans to ask for their money back.
Billed as a concert to promote a tolerant France, Madonna’s show was supposed to be an intimate night for fans at the city’s famed Olympia Theatre. But an unexpected exit after only 45-minutes led to a slew of boos from disappointed fans, according to MTV.
The short show started at 10:15 and Madge was off the stage by 11. Fans shouted insults at the star and later YouTube, where the show was broadcasting live, disabled comments after fans let their true feelings out. The show cost between 80 to 280 euros equivalent to about $98 to over $344.
This latest incident is in addition to a list of moments from the tour that has made international headlines. From flashing her breasts onstage in Istanbul to her use of a prop pistol in Edinburgh, Scotland even after the police there told her not to do so, Madonna’s recent tour behind her latest album, MDNA, has attracted a lot of attention.
Recently, the star came under fire for her use of the Nazi swastika in a video used in her show. Madonna defended her use of the symbol in the New York Times, stating it represents her message of “the intolerance that we human beings have for one another.”
In a video the symbol is superimposed on the foreheads of famous figures like Sarah Palin, Pope Benedict XVL and China’s President, Hu Jintao. After a show in Paris where she played the video, which also features Marine Le Pen, the leader of the French National Front, the far right political party threatened to sue. Madonna continues to show the video.
Will the controversy continue as the singer makes her way to the States on August 28? We’ll have to wait and see.
In the meantime, check here to see when the Material Girl’s coming to your town.
