The Fray Talk Kelly Clarkson and New Music
After teaming up together for a benefit concert in December, frontman Isaac Slade says he just immediately hit it off with the American Idol winner.
“We became texting buddies and kept in touch and talked about the tour and what we’d want it to look like,” he told Billboard.
The two acts were able to come to a consensus and Slade says the co-headlining tour, which kicked off July 21 in Ridgefield, WA, is going well. In fact, he has nothing but nice things to say about Ms. Clarkson.
“We really respect her and her work and what she’s done with the cards dealt to her,” he said. “She’s been an incredible artist for ten years.”
While on tour the band is also trying to work on their follow-up to Scars & Stripes, released earlier this year. Slade’s even hoping they’ll be able to get it out in 2013, a change for them.
“We’ve been on a survival pace, kind of, doing [the music] and making sure our relationships are intact back home and everything, so we ended up doing a record every three or four years,” he said. “Everything is kind of stabilizing now, so I think we’d like to pick up the pace a little bit and do it every two [years], maybe. I’m hoping something will come out next year.”
Though the tour with Kelly ends in early September, the guys plan to stay on the road, with dates already scheduled for Australia, Asia and possibly Africa. Slade’s hoping this will spark his creative juices and lead to new music.
“We’d written so many songs in the comforts of our own world, our own home, and bus and studio and stuff, and then suddenly we’re in the middle of New Orleans or over in South Africa and everything was just different,” he said. “So hopefully we’ll get some of that as we travel. I’m bringing a guitar, so I’ll do my best.”
That’s all we ask of you Isaac, that’s all we ask.
