Neon Trees and newcomers JJAMZ had a lot to celebrate last night at New York’s Webster Hall.

It was record release day for JJAMZ, the side project of Maroon 5′s James Valentine, as well as their first time playing in New York. Meanwhile, Neon Trees just learned that their current single “Everybody Talks” reached one million downloads. Frontman Tyler Glenn expressed his excitement to the sold-out crowd.

“The next song we’re going to play has now sold one million copies. That means about six million people stole it,” he joked. “When a song gets into the crevices of your mind that’s when I found out that everybody talks.”

It was easy to see just why the band has reached such a milestone as their live show never faltered. Whether it was Glenn’s witty onstage banter or crazy antics like whipping his mic wire in the air only to have it wind up around his neck or crowd surfing into the audience, Neon Trees’ energetic performance impressed.

Well on their way to becoming an arena friendly act, the band’s memorable songs had the crowd jumping and singing along for the entirety of their performance. While popular singles “Animal,” “1983″ and “Everybody Talks” got the most screams, “Mad Love” switched things up.

“Elaine our drummer is about eight months pregnant with a beautiful baby,” Glenn told the crowd of their drummer’s absence. “We need a girl to sing along with us,” he said before bringing up a female fan who has been to 60 of their shows to sing Elaine’s part.

The remainder of their set included past singles “Your Surrender” and “Sins of My Youth” with a killer encore performance of “I Am the D.J.” and mega hit “Everybody Talks.”

Show opener and super group JJAMZ also held their own. Combined of members from Maroon 5, Phantom Planet, the Like, and Rilo Kiley the indie rock outfit provided a strong 30-minute set.

Frontwoman Z Berg proved to be a captivating lead as her sultry vocals and engaging stage presence had many in the crowd dancing along. While she impressed on songs like first single “Heartbeat” and “Never Enough,” it was when the band’s male members joined her on vocals that JJAMZ struck the biggest chord.

On “LAX” Alex Greenwald provided striking harmonies alongside Z with impressive guitar accompaniment while Michael Runion shared his own flavor on the jazzier “Cleverly Disguised.”

Their set included many of the tracks off their debut record Suicide Pact now available on iTunes.
