It’s no secret that No Doubt frontwoman Gwen Stefani is fascinated by Japanese culture. Her successful fashion line, Harajuku Lovers, is inspired by a Tokyo shopping district. Under her lead, the band have once again embraced the oddities of Eastern culture in the music video for “Settle Down.”
In a just-released video teaser, Gwen, Tom, Tony and Adrian find themselves playing among brightly lit Japanaese Dekotora-style trucks. Dekotora is a Japanese underground movement by which big rigs are dressed up with thousands of lights and massive sound systems.
“Settle Down” was directed by Sophie Muller, responsible for a slew of acclaimed music videos dating back to 1989. This isn’t the first time the band has worked with Muller, who directed No Doubt’s Live in the Tragic Kingdom and Rock Steady Live as well as Stefani’s Harajuku Lovers Live.
One would gather from the teaser that Muller sought to highlight the band’s early spunky Ska-infused style. We’ll find out July 16th when the completed video makes its worldwide debut
No Doubt’s new album “Push and Shove” will be released on September 25th, 2012.
