Carrie Underwood has been taking the U.K. by storm, making new fans, giving interviews (some controversial), popping by 10 Downing Street, doing touristy stuff, and attending parties. And on Thursday night (June 20) she made her UK concert debut, performing at none other than London’s famed Royal Albert Hall.
Her performance there was packed with hits new and old, from “Before He Cheats” and “So Small” to songs from her brand-new album Blown Away. And mixed into the set list was a cover of Coldplay‘s “Fix You.” The song is from Coldplay’s third album, X&Y.
Why Coldplay? “I wanted to basically pay homage,” she told MTV.co.uk. “It was kind of a respect thing and I know that there are so many amazing artists here [in the UK].”

Carrie and Coldplay actually have some history together. Both acts played live during an American Idol broadcast last month. Carrie played “Blown Away,” the title track from her new album, and Coldplay did “Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall” and “Paradise.”
Reviews of the show are so far positive; the London Evening Standard, for instance, called her performance “absorbingly watchable” and described her as a “fabulous singer.” And Carrie herself appeared satisfied with the show.
What an incredible night! Thank you all for being so wonderful at the @RoyalAlbertHall! I can’t wait to come back!

The London performance marked Carrie’s first-ever show in the U.K. The next stop on her overseas tour is Australia, where she will play, among other venues, the famed Sydney Opera House.
