The Show Must Go On: Elton John Performing Again After Respiratory Infection
Following a “serious respiratory infection” that sent him to the hospital and forced him to cancel three Las Vegas performances last week, Sir Elton John is on the mend and will perform his upcoming shows.
John, 65, has quite the schedule coming up, including a high-profile performance this Monday (June 4) at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Concert at Buckingham Palace and European tour dates starting this Friday (June 1) in Germany. Additionally, on June 6, John is expected to attend a special performance to mark the 3,000th West End performance of of Billy Elliot: The Musical, for which he wrote the music.
“Elton is now back at his home in England and is feeling much better following his recent chest infection,” reads a statement on his website from May 28. “He is looking forward to playing a series of concerts in the UK and Europe this summer and, of course he is very excited about playing at The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Concert.”
At the Glamour Women of the Year Awards in London on Tuesday (May 29), John’s civil partner, David Furnish, told reporters that Elton is “doing incredibly well and recovering.”
John’s rep phrased it a little more bluntly when speaking to BBC News: “It’s nothing more than a chest infection – you rest and it’s better. Everything that’s planned is still happening.”
Last Thursday (May 24), John was admitted and released from a Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after suffering a serious respiratory infection. He canceled his Million Dollar Piano performances at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas for May 24, 25 and 27, noting that he needed a full week to recover. The remaining 11 shows for John’s residency at Caesar’s will take place in October.
