Mumford & Sons will release their sophomore album on September 24th, as announced from the stage by keyboardist and vocalist Ben Lovett at the Pinkpop Festival in the Netherlands this weekend.
Paste reports that the announcement was prompted by vocalist Marcus Mumford telling the crowd the album had been completed.
The neo-folk quartet have been working on the album with Sigh No More producer Markus Dravs since March 2011 and have promised the album will be an “evolution, not revolution.”
This one of the supposed new songs on the upcoming album is a soft, sweetly melodic tune “Ghosts That We Knew.“
The band also announced a series of “Stopover” shows in the U.S. for this August. They explain that these are slightly different from your average summer concert. An official spokesperson says, “The Stopovers combine the intimacy of a community celebration with the excitement of a world-class music festival. Featuring local vendors and activities, each Stopover will begin with a concert at a unique site and end with a series of smaller events involving local businesses, venues, and, most importantly, local people. Mumford & Sons will headline the main event, alongside an eclectic and energetic roster of artists curated by the band themselves.”
Each Stopover ticket also gets you a “commemorative Gentlemen of the Road Stopover Passport, and an exclusive digital download compilation album featuring performances taken from various acts across the four shows.”
August 4 – Portland, ME (The Eastern Promenade)
August 11 – Bristol, VA/TN (Off State Street in Downtown Bristol)
August 18 – Dixon, IL (Page Park)
August 25 – Monterey, CA (Monterey County Fairgrounds)
