John Mayer Releases Music Video For “Shadow Days”
Today John Mayer revealed his new music video for lead single off his upcoming album Born And Raised. Shot during his travels, the video showcases Mayer driving across the country while singing from snow-covered mountaintops and Utah’s Monument Valley at dawn.
A long-haired Mayer is shown throughout the rustic “Shadow Days.” With footage of him writing in hotel rooms, eating at diners, dealing with car trouble and purchasing a guitar, the viewer gets some insight into his life on the road. All the while Mayer is documenting his journey for himself through his own camera lens.
This is the first music video Mayer has released since being diagnosed with granuloma last September. In March he found the granuloma grew back and had to cancel festival performances at SXSW, New Orleans’ Jazz Fest and his own U.S. spring tour.
“The granuloma has grown back where it had mostly healed. This is bad news,” he wrote on his Website. “Because of this, I have no choice but to take an indefinite break from live performing. Though there will be a day when all of this will be behind me, it will sideline me for a longer period of time than I care to have you count down.”
While Mayer has canceled his live dates, he just announced an appearance at the Clive Davis Theater in Los Angeles May 10. The event, titled “An Evening With John Mayer,” will be hosted by GRAMMY Museum Executive Director Bob Santelli and will include a discussion with Mayer about his early musical influences, his career and the Born And Raised recording process.
Born And Raised will be released May 22. Mayer has said the LP will have “organic cowboy guitar sounds.” Produced by Mayer and Don Was (Rolling Stones, B.B. King, Bonnie Raitt) the title track will feature David Crosby and Graham Nash on backup vocals.
