With Northern California producing some of the world’s most celebrated wines, it comes as no surprise that San Francisco Bay Area natives Train are really into making their own.
Not only do they have a wine blog on their website but last year the band launched their own company, Save Me San Francisco Wine Co., selling “Drops of Jupiter” Petite Sirah and “Calling All Angels” Chardonnay. In a recent interview with Marcus D on Alice@97.3/San Francisco, the band opened up about their love for wine and what motivated them into branching into the vino business.
Guitarist Jimmy Stafford explained, “I chose the blends, and these guys [Pat Monahan and Scott Underwood] were really involved in the marketing, the labels, and all that stuff. It’s a lot of fun. It’s a way for us to bring a piece of Northern California to the rest of the world.”
The band is not just wine entrepreneurs, they are using proceeds from the “Drops of Jupiter” Petite Sirah to give to Family House, a non-profit that provide temporary housing for families of seriously ill children.
“The wine actually is so good that it’s actually been pretty profitable,” says drummer Scott Underwood, “so we’ve been able to contribute a lot to Family House.”
