Chris Klein Talks American Pie, American Reunion and Behind the Scenes Antics
You know how there are certain movies that you have never seen, but everyone else and their grandmother has? And you kind of laugh along when they talk about it, rather than admit you haven’t seen it?
For Kim from Jim and Kim in the Morning on New York’s Fresh 102.7, American Pie is that movie. That’s right, she’s never seen American Pie until VERY recently! Kim stepped up her movie game and finally saw it last weekend (and paid Time Warner $1.99 for the privilege).
Of course, her partner Jim and Producer Craig weren’t going to let that gem go by without telling that bit of info to Oz himself, actor Chris Klein, when he called into the show.
Chris called in to talk about the newest American Pie film and his time on set with all the original cast members from the first hilarious flick that was released way back in 1998 and quickly turned into a cult classic. Before the conversation started, Kim had to make her confession to Chris. She let him know that she always heard others speak about American Pie but recently just saw it for herself.
He was shocked! “The original movie?! You’ve been in the dark for twelve, almost thirteen years! Welcome…join us!” said Chris.
Even though Kim has missed out on several years of American Pie laughs, Chris was as genuine and sweet as ever. And his accent reminded her of his character, Oz. But that’s not all that mirrors his character, Chris’ relation to Oz is similar to his own High School life.
“You weren’t either the jock or the theatre guy, you were both!” Kim says about Chris’ High School days.
“Yeah! I was kinda both, and Oz and me share that one similarity. Thats probably the only reason why i got the part back in 1998– i don’t think it had much to do with talent,” he joked. “We share that and that was really fun for me to do back when I was a kid. I’m really grateful to have grown up in a place–I grew up in Omaha, Nebraska in which the arts were celebrated just as much as the athletics– and that was kind of a unique thing and I was lucky to have that.”
Chris also spoke about all the hi-jinks that went on when he got back together with Jim, Stifler and the rest of the boys!
“There’s a lot of improv and a lot of craziness” says Chris. “In fact, the producers of this movie spend a whole heck of a lot of their time reigning us in like were a bunch of toddlers. I feel like if there was an outtake reel of all the times we busted out laughing this movie would be 12 hours long!”
Chris assured fans that the American Pie lovers that have been with the crew from the beginning will be nothing but pleased with the new film. He said that “Any fans out there who have expectations, I can really guarantee that they will get everything they want and more with this American reunion.”
