Spring is here, which means we all have a few extra hours of sunlight per day and warm weather to enjoy. Instead of burrowing into your couch and checking your Netflix queue, it would be wise to partake in something our great city (or one of its boroughs) has to offer, namely the Dekalb Market in Downtown Brooklyn.
Dekalb Market is launching into the 2012 season with a bang by hosting a Spring Weekender this Saturday and Sunday, April 7-8.
Dekalb Market 2012 will be open seven days a week and offers something for everyone, including live music, dance parties, bike in movie nights, lobster boils, roller derby, and free open-air markets which utilize repurposed shipping containers.
That means instead of this…
You’ll see this…
“It’s a Saturday afternoon and you don’t know where to go, you know you can head to the Dekalb Market for live music and a beer,” says Joann Kim-Nunez, a producer of the market, to Metro. “We want this to be on people’s agendas.”
And with all that’s planned just for the Spring Weekender, it would be tough not to pencil it in. On the the list of activities during the opening weekend will be live music from local bands and DJ sets, a beer and wine garden featuring local brews, classes and workshops for adults and children that involve cooking, farming, gardening, and crafting, a market wide Easter egg hunt, plus a curated flower and garden market.
And of course we can’t forget the forty outdoor retail vendors. Shops like YakBlak, Hank & JoJo, Harriet’s Alter Ego and Pip & Estella will be showcasing arts and crafts, antiques, new and vintage clothing, jewelry, furniture, prints and much more.
There will be plenty of food vendors at Dekalb Market as well, so there will be no worries when searching for something fantastic to eat. You can enjoy anything from a cup of coffee served up by Joe to indulging your sweet tooth at Robicelli’s Cupcakes.
All of the fun starts this Saturday and Sunday on 138 Willoughby Street in Brooklyn, beginning each morning at 10am and ending at 6pm.
