KISS Diss Rihanna In Press Conference
During a press conference yesterday, KISS informed all that their upcoming tour with Mötley Crüe will be one to see. Titled The Tour, both bands promise to impress.
“What you’re going to hear onstage is live music,” Gene Simmons said. “All the bombs are real. All the music is real. The guys you’re seeing onstage playing their instruments are playing their instruments. No karaoke singers allowed. No fake bullsh–. Leave that to the Rihanna’s and anybody who ends their name with an ‘A.’ This is real stuff.”
Billboard was backstage with Mötley Crüe’s Tommy Lee, who supported Simmons’ earlier comments.
“No disrespect to Rihanna, she’s a great singer, but we’re in a slump for some sh– that has some personality and appeal beyond a bunch of pop stuff that’s floating around out there,” he said. “I’m glad he said that actually because I don’t think i can bear watching another f—ing award show that is just a little bit better than American Idol. It’s f—ing pathetic to watch people go out and f—ing karaoke with a bunch of lights and video. It’s all completely watered down.”
Mötley Crüe’s Mick Mars added that the touring world needs more rock.
“More guitars? There can’t ever be enough,” Mars said. “I’d have 15,000 guitar players on stage.”
While KISS guitarist compared both bands to “Elvis on steroids,” he added that the joint tour is for the fans.
“It’s Elvis through a Marshall Amplifier. We’re there. We’re celebrating life. We’re celebrating all the things that life gives you…the freedom it gives you,” he said. “And we’re out there to say thank you to the fans.”
KISS are a rock band who have been around since the 1970s and have sold more than 40 million albums in the U.S. Known for their distinct makeup and costumes, the band has received monumental success with chart-topping hits including “Rock And Roll All Night,” “Detroit Rock City,” “Beth,” among others.
The band takes on the personas of comic book-style characters which include Starchild, The Demon, Spaceman or Space Ace and Catman and it was their fans that originally chose their makeup design.
As of press time, Rihanna has not retaliated via Twitter.
