Tina Fey and Betty White are nominated? Steve Martin does Bluegrass? Family Guy‘s Seth McFarlane has as shot at winning, what? Amy Winehouse could still win? Who will pay tribute to Whitney Houston? Those GRAMMY questions and more answered…
The big question on everyone’s mind … Who will pay tribute to [mp3com-artist]Whitney Houston[/mp3com-artist] on tonight’s 54th Annual GRAMMY awards? The superstar passed away yesterday and was found in her room at the Beverly Hilton, in the bathtub, around 3:30PM Pacific time. Police are waiting for autopsy results but say there was no appearance of criminal intent. Naturally the producers had to scramble to put together some sort of tribute, but who could knock it out of the park? Immediately speculation on Twitter [and my guess] was [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Jennifer Hudson[/lastfm]. The Dreamgirl will take part in a ”respectful musical tribute” to Houston who has SIX GRAMMYs to her name. Who else will join in? We’re going to have to wait and see.
MORE NEED-TO-KNOW ON TONIGHT’s GRAMMYs NEXT
Adele takes the stage for the first time since last year’s throat surgery.
She’s nominated for SIX awards.
Chris Brown is BACK! Three years after spending GRAMMY night in the slammer and not on stage Brown is slated to perform.
Is LL Cool J necessary? He’s the first host the GRAMMYs have had since 2005 when Queen Latifah was at the helm.
How is Family Guy creator and frequent Comedy Central Roaster Seth McFarlane nominated?
Seth is in the running for TWO statues. One for Best Song Written For Visual Media for he’s cartoony “Christmastime Is Killing Us,” but most surprisingly he’s taking on Tony Bennett, Barbara Streisand and Susan Boyle for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album. Did you know he sang? This record ‘Music is Better Than Words’ is nominated.
Betty White + Tina Fey face off plus the Wild and Crazy Guy Steve Martin is ‘picking’ and ah-grinnin’ NEXT
SNL Alum, Father of the Bride and comedy hero to many Steve Martin is also a Bluegrass musician. He and The Steep Canyon Rangers were recognized for “RARE BIRD ALERT” as Best Blue Grass Album.
Tina Fey Gallery Tina Fey squares off against Betty White, one of her mentors in the category of Best Spoken Word. Fey for her book Bosseypants and White for If You Ask Me (And Of Course You Won’t.) Also in the running is Val Kilmer.
Find out NEXT how [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Mumford and Songs[/lastfm] can be nominated for a song they performed at last year’s GRAMMYs and why [mp3com-artist]Amy Winehouse[/mp3com-artist] is already eligible to win.
How can [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Amy Winehouse[/lastfm] win an award already? Her to-be-released album “Lioness” of recordings that were not finished before her death hasn’t hit the shelves yet? She’s up for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance with Tony Bennett for their work on Body & Soul. Amy had five GRAMMY awards to her credit. Bennett suggest we legalize drugs.
What about Mumford and Sons? They performed The Cave on last year’s show, but it’s nominated this year?
Yahoo Music Explains “Nods in both Song and Record of the Year were surprising though, especially since “The Cave” shouldn’t have been nominated at all. VH1’s Mark Graham noted on Twitter, “The Cave” was eligible for the 2011 Grammys, since the song was released on an album that came out way back in February 2010. In fact, Mumford played “The Cave” at the 2011 Grammys. So why was it nominated for next year’s show? “The Cave” was released a single stateside on October 25th, 2010, just after the 2011 cut-off, which made it eligible for the 2012 ceremony.”
