Madonna Is Furious With M.I.A., Still Raking In the Dough
Apparently our gal [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Madonna[/lastfm] is quite angry with her half time cohort [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]M.I.A.[/lastfm] over the London rapper’s unrehearsed “communicating… keeping up foreign relations. You know, giving him the bird!”
Madonna and her team are upset because M.I.A., who has since come under fire for sneaking the obscene gesture in front of 111.3 million viewers (Wait, really? Is it THAT obscene anymore?), is now getting all the spotlight and Madge is none too happy.
But really, it’s all going to work out. We have faith!
Prior to the show, Madonna promised the network she wouldn’t break any indecency rules, you know, like the ones set in place after [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Janet Jackson[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Justin Timberlake[/lastfm]‘s infamous “wardrobe malfunction” back in 2004, and she’s said to be quite upset over M.I.A.’s rudeness.
A source told Britain’s The Sun, “Madonna wasn’t impressed. She prides herself on professionalism. M.I.A. did nothing similar in rehearsals. Nobody knew she was going to pull this stunt.
“Madonna wanted to put on a world-beating performance. But everyone ended up talking about this girl’s middle finger.”
According to TMZ, M.I.A. may actually be hit with a fine over all this. Apparently she signed a contract with the NFL for the performance and she’ll have to pay them if the FCC hits them with a fine.SMH…
And just so you know, Avril Lavigne disapproves!
"MIA sticking her middle finger out at Super Bowl is obscene? How about almost 50 million Americans living in poverty. That's obscene.—
Avril Lavigne (@AvrilLavigne) February 07, 2012
But really, is this going to stop Madonna’s rise back to the top? No way!
Madonna’s new single, “Give Me All Your Luvin,’” and her forthcoming album, MDNA, are off to solid sales starts. According to Billboard, after only three days since its release, “Luvin’” has sold over 100-thousand downloads in the US!
Pre-orders for her album via iTunes are around the 50-thousand mark. MDNA will be her 12th studio album and is due out on March 26th.
Madonna’s back catalog of albums also got a sales boost last week, thanks to sale pricing and publicity generated by her new single and her Super Bowl halftime performance. Her top 10 digital sellers are showing a collected increase of over 1,700 percent and her Celebration greatest hits album got the largest bump, selling over 13-thousand download copies!
