The 2011 VH1 Divas show celebrated soul music last night in New York City!
The show took place in the world famous Hammerstein Ballroom to a standing room only crowd, which was perfect for the occasion to celebrate music’s biggest names.

The night was centered on the soul music cities of Philadelphia, Chicago, Memphis, Detroit and London with a special tribute to one of soul music’s fallen stars, [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Amy Winehouse[/lastfm].
In the late singer’s honor, [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings[/lastfm] performed “You Know I’m No Good” and Florence Welch of [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Florence and the Machine[/lastfm] performed “Back to Black” with [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Wanda Jackson[/lastfm].
The tribute evoked mixed emotions from the crowd of both happiness and sadness on the many contributions that Winehouse made to the music industry.
[lastfm link_type="artist_info"]The Roots[/lastfm] were the house band for the show and helped to usher in amazing performances by [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Chaka Khan[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Estelle[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Marsha Ambrosius[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Boyz II Men[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Erykah Badu[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Travie McCoy[/lastfm] among many others.
The divas of the show [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Jill Scott[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Mary J. Blige[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Jennifer Hudson[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Kelly Clarkson[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Jessie J[/lastfm] performed their own soul inspired songs, and also some of the great classics that helped to shape the music genre.
VH1 Divas Celebrates Soul will air tonight at 9PM on VH1.
