Five Artists Influenced By Peter Gabriel (page 4)
3 – Sarah McLachlan (1988-present)
If you’ve heard 1993’s Fumbling Towards Ecstasy, you don’t have to ask [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Sarah McLachlan[/lastfm] if she was listening to a ton of Gabriel when she recorded it. Looking back at McLachlan‘s early release, the song Possession is just bursting at the seams with Gabriel‘s influence. Throughout the song, the organ’s sound is very Gabriel-esque, and has a similar vibe to Come Talk With Me. The songs predominant bass line is also very reminiscent of Gabriel‘s solo hit Secret World. Fumbling Towards Ecstasy is definitely an album that any Gabriel fan would enjoy; and as it turns out, Jerry Marotta ([lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Peter Gabriel[/lastfm]‘s drummer from 1977-86) actually plays on a couple tracks too, which makes the record all the more enjoyable for any long time Gabriel follower.
