Baby, you were born this way. And [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Lady Gaga[/lastfm] is here to remind you with her video for WeStopHate.org that no matter what the haters say, you are fabulous the way you are.
[pullquote quote=”Building teen esteem is one of the most important things that we young people should focus on right now.” credit=”Lady Gaga”]After the heartbreaking suicide of 14-year-old Jamie Rodemeyer because of vicious bullying, Lady Gaga tweeted that she was going to meet President Obama to discuss her concerns with bullying in America.
A young woman, Emily-Anne Rigal of WeStopHate.org, reached out to Lady Gaga to record a video for her site dedicated to “building teen esteem.”
In her video, Gaga said, “Building teen esteem is one of the most important things that we young people should focus on right now…In light of Jamie Rodenmeyer’s death, I encourage everyone all over the world to come visit WeStopHate.org and learn about how we can combat bullying and the obstacles that young people experience every day.”
In a world of pervasive social media, the old adage “sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me” doesn’t seem to be such a booster to self-confidence any longer. Victims of bullying have a harder time escaping the constant assault of their attackers.
Lady Gaga’s very public message for tolerance and compassion is a necessity in today’s world full of snark and haters.
Mother Monster has a point. Take a stand. Be different. Be nice.
