Nature-Conservancy

Deb Gordon’s guest was Bill Ulfelder, New York Director of The Nature Conservancy, which is one of the most effective environmental groups working today.  Its mission is to preserve the plants, animals and natural communities that represent the diversity of life on Earth by protecting the lands and waters they need to survive.  .

The organization was founded 60 years ago with an initial land acquisition in New York, and has now expanded its efforts throughout all 50 states and worldwide.  Mr. Ulfelder detailed the many ways that the organization has grown and evolved and some of their many accomplishments which include the protection of millions of acres of land around the world.

Discussed the Conservancy’s various initiatives which address the global threats to their mission, the challenges facing the Conservancy and environmental efforts today, and stressed the need for the community to get involved and the small things we can all do to help make a difference.

The Nature Conservancy holds several New York area events throughout the year, which raises awareness and funds for the cause.  For more information, visit www.nature.org.
