You might have seen the signs on the subways and streets of New York City…urging you to “pull up your pants…no one wants to see your underwear” or “if you have to eat on the subway, avoid foods that are messy, smelly or otherwise disruptive”. The signs look official, with the moniker Metropolitan Etiquette Authority” stamped on them. But they aren’t from a government agency…instead, they are the work of one man crusading to improve our manners….
Jason Shelowitz is a graphic designer fed up with people flicking lit cigarettes onto the streets, clipping their nails on the subways and just all-around bad manners! So he is a one-man crusading etiquette guru looking to change the way we behave.
This morning we talked to Jason about some of his favorite signs – there are 80 of them altogether – on both the streets of New York and the subways and where you can find them…
Check out Jim & Kim’s interview with artist Jason Shelowitz below!
Then the listeners chimed in with which signs they would post if they had a chance to target their fellow NYC dwellers etiquette…
Listen to what one listener had to say! And be sure to tell us what ettiquitte sign you would post in the comments section below:
