Top 10 Songs Coldplay Has Covered

Sure. There are tons of bands that have covered [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Coldplay[/lastfm], but what we like best is when Coldplay covers other bands. The boys always lend their specific brand of expansive soft rock flair to just about every song.

Check out our list of the Top 10 Songs Coldplay Has Covered. Totally varied–just like Coldplay’s genre-transcending sound– it includes artists like [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]The Beatles[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Michael Jackson[/lastfm], and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]The Smiths[/lastfm].

Want to see if they cover a song at their exclusive performance from the legendary stage of New York’s Ed Sullivan Theater for Live on Letterman?

Watch the entire concert live on Tuesday, September 20 at 8pm ET/ 5pm PT, right here. Presented by AT&T, rethink possible.

As if Coldplay wasn’t wistful (and color-oriented) enough, Chris Martin crooning lyrics like, “sometimes in a dream you appear/Outside under the purple sky/Diamonds in the snow sparkle/Our hearts were singing/It felt like Christmastime,” from The Pretenders’ ballad “2000 Miles” makes us feel all squishy inside.

9. “Can’t Get You Out Of My Head”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Kylie Minogue[/lastfm]

Playing on an utterly spectacular and obvious pun, we just can’t get Coldplay’s slowed-down version of Kylie Minogue’s “Can’t Get You Out Of My Head” out of our, well, heads.

8. “Stop Me If You Think That You’ve Heard This One Before”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]The Smiths[/lastfm]

Coldplay, considering you are covering one of the most infamous songs from fellow Brit band, The Smiths, we have “heard this one before,” but we aren’t going to “stop you.”

7. “You Gotta Fight For Your Right To Party”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Beastie Boys[/lastfm]

It was a nice effort, Coldplay, but we feel less like partying after hearing your cover of “You Gotta Fight For Your Right To Party” and more like having a nice cup of chamomile tea and curling up with someone we love.

6. “Why Does It Always Rain On Me?”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Travis[/lastfm]

One of our favorite angst-y Brit songs of all time, “Why Does It Always Rain On Me?” isn’t just a song about bad luck, but perpetual bad weather. Something the British lads of Coldplay are well acquainted with.

5. “In The Sun”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Joseph Arthur[/lastfm]

What do you get when you combine the gravely tenor of [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Michael Stipe[/lastfm] with [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Chris Martin[/lastfm]’s alt-rock falsetto and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Joseph Arthur[/lastfm]’s excellent songwriting?

One of the most poignant adult alternative rock collaborations of all time.

4. “Lips Like Sugar”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Echo & The Bunnymen[/lastfm]

As ex-New Wave kids, Coldplay’s cover of “Lips Like Sugar’ from Echo & the Bunnymen is our favorite of the bunch. Plus, we like how serious Martin is about the whole thing.

3. “What A Wonderful World”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Louis Armstrong[/lastfm]

It really is a wonderful world when you are at a massive outdoor festival and Coldplay are diddling off a little Louis Armstrong before going into their massive hit “Fix You.”

Time to hug!

2. “Here Comes The Sun”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]The Beatles[/lastfm]

If you are a band from England and you haven’t covered the Beatles than you are bound to get stripped of your citizenship.

1. “Billie Jean”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Michael Jackson[/lastfm]

We’re almost positive that if Michael Jackson heard this heart-wrenching acoustic cover of “Billie Jean,” he’d love it.
