Best Songs About School For Back To School Week!

The algebra might be a little out of our heads, we never needed to learn it, why our teachers told us that we’ll never know.  But what the headline is trying to tell us is X=15 (we think).  So here are the 15 best songs about school to start the school week!

Songs about school, not a normal iPod mix, but maybe something to slip into the kids headset as you send them off to school for the year.

15. Be True To Your School – [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Beach Boys[/lastfm]

Classic from the Beach Boys, makes you want to wear your letterman jacket and get ready for the football game.

14. Graduation Song (Friends Forever) – [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Vitamin C[/lastfm]

It’s not always easy finding songs that talk about school, but this song was probably played at 80% of high school graduations in 2000-2001.

13. Don’t Be a Dropout – [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]James Brown[/lastfm]

Anything with James Brown we like.  This song also gives a positive message.

12. Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm – [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Crash test Dummies[/lastfm]

One thing for sure is the chorus is catchy, we’re not sure of every other word he’s singing about we just know it’s stories about kids in school.

11. Slipping Through My Fingers – [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]ABBA[/lastfm]
If you’ve ever had that feeling when you send your kid off to school for the first time, when they don’t seem to need you anymore, this song will resonate with you.

10. School’s Out – [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Alice Cooper[/lastfm]

There were about 6 years where this was the first thing we listened to in June.  It never got old and always felt good.

9. Hot For Teacher – [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Van Halen [/lastfm]

Not our favorite, but the video is hilarious.

8. Harper Valley PTA – [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Jeannie C Riley[/lastfm]

A great story song that for some reason captures all the bad that happens during PTA meetings.

7. School Days[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Chuck Berry[/lastfm]

We all know the riff in this song, but the entrance Chuck makes in the video is classic.

6. Future’s So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades – [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Timbuk3[/lastfm]

Talk about a song that we felt was talking right to us.   We really thought we were going somewhere, and we really liked wearing sun glasses.

5. Smokin’ in the Boys Room-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”] Brownsville Station[/lastfm]

We know [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Montly Crue[/lastfm] covered this song later but we prefer the original by Brownsville Station.  It doesn’t matter who sings it, we all know “smoking aint allowed in school”.

4. Popular – [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Nada Surf[/lastfm]

We’re not sure if it’s a song, or an angry high schooler’s essay set to music.  But this video was a bit controversial, and the song really does seem to grab a chuck of what high schooler’s feel like during those four years.

3. ABC – [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Jackson 5[/lastfm]

Back just after Michael Jackson learned his ABC’s he and his four brothers cranked out this hit about one of the first things you learn for school.  Without you’re ABC’s where would you be?

2. Another Brick in the Wall – [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Pink Floyd [/lastfm]

Really it is the best “out of school song” but this classic from Pink Floyd made us glad we never went to school in England, they seem really mean over there.

1. Rock n’ Roll High School – [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]The Ramones[/lastfm]

This is the high school we wanted to go to.  I wonder what the mascot would be for RNRHS?
