It seems like everyday a new singing competition show is crowding our already packed TV schedule…
I mean really, how many of these shows are we supposed to digest, much less actually enjoy? Well here’s a simple breakdown of this Fall’s vocal competition line-up… and what might get us hooked!
The X Factor
Premieres Wed., September 21st & Thurs., September 22nd on FOX
Besides the obvious draw of seeing Simon Cowell bring his beloved U.K. hit The X Factor to America for the first time, we also get to see a reunion between Simon and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Paula Abdul[/lastfm].
Judging by the promos, Paula looks MEAN! Will that be the twist that draws us in? A mean little Paula barking at contestants and audience members alike? Simon also snagged the legendary record mogul L.A. Reid to tell contestants whether they have the mojo or not. To round things out, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Nicole Scherzinger[/lastfm] from the [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Pussycat Dolls[/lastfm] will join the judges panel after leaving as a judge on The Sing Off.
Hosted by Steve Jones (Who? Lol. For more on this unknown U.K. hottie click here!) the X Factor competition is open to soloists and groups with no upper age limit. Each judge is in charge of one of the following catagories: Young guys, Young girls, Older Singers, and Groups. Producers will surprise the judges by assigning the groups to them, no one can choose.
Surprise Twists: The judges will mentor contestants in their category while judging the other catagories. The contestants will visit the judges homes and the ultimate winner will receive a 5 million dollar recording contract with Simon Cowell’s label, Syco Music.
