After [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Amy Winehouse[/lastfm]‘s tragic death last weekend, former addict, famous comedic actor, and[lastfm link_type="artist_info"] Katy Perry[/lastfm]‘s hilarious hubby, [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Russell Brand[/lastfm], wrote a moving tribute to Winehouse that talked about the sorrows of addiction.
News about Winehouse’s death also hit Perry hard when she realized the same fate could have happened to Brand.
On July 25th’s Good Morning America, Perry said:
[pullquote quote="I see how much work it takes to be clean and sober when you have addiction on your hands." credit="Katy Perry"]“My heart felt really sad.”
“My husband, who’s been clean and sober for almost nine years, you know, I see him working [on)] a [sobriety] program and working on himself every single day and I see how much work it takes to be clean and sober when you have addiction on your hands.”
“So it gave me a real gratefulness for my husband, who got clean when he was 27. And I just feel sad and I hope she finds peace.”
In his own statement, Brand profoundly said:
“When you love someone who suffers from the disease of addiction you await the phone call. There will be a phone call. The sincere hope is that the call will be from the addict themselves, telling you they’ve had enough, that they’re ready to stop, ready to try something new.”
“Of course though, you fear the other call, the sad nocturnal chime from a friend or relative telling you it’s too late, she’s gone.”
