I guess not everybody wants to go skydiving and to tell you the truth, I am terrified of heights, so the mere thought of jumping out of a plane at 12,500 feet just didn’t seem like something I wanted to do. Boy was I wrong!!!
My ex-boyfriend is a competitive skydiver who was on the elite U.S. Army Golden Knights Parachute Team and we have remained friends through the years. So I planned a visit out to L.A. to visit him and told him I would finally take my first jump while I was there. It seemed like a good idea (not to mention I thought how impressed he would be) at the time but as it drew closer, so did the fear. But it was time to finally face up to the one crazy thing I hadn’t done yet that scared me to death. I have been scuba diving with the sharks, snorkeling with the stingrays and pulled 9Gs with the Air Force Thunderbirds in an F-16 but skydiving still scared me.
It turns out it is everything everyone has ever said and there are no words to describe the feeling when you first step out of that plane at 12,500 feet and begin your freefall. It is exhilarating and amazing and as soon as I landed, it wanted to do it again. So I did! I actually took two separate skydives on Saturday at Lake Elsinore in California. The second one, I actually did back flips out of the plane.
The best way to describe it? I feel like I had a dream I went skydiving on Saturday!!!
