Katy Perry brings her California Dreams tour to the tri-state area on Sunday night! She’ll be performing at the Prudential Center! That’s just one of the many, many things we have on our list of What’s Fresh Around Town for this weekend!

1. Free Despicable Me!

“Despicable Me” screens for free at 7 p.m. at Capt Tilly Park in Queens with popcorn, ice cream to the first 200 children.  Look for arts & crafts and tattoo or face painting between 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m..

2. Miss New York!

The Miss New York Pageant and the Miss NY’s Outstanding Teen 2011 both begin today at Staten Island’s St. George’s Theatre. 22 young women from across New York State and 18 outstanding teens will be competing for the coveted titles of Miss NY 2011 and Miss NY’s Outstanding Teen 2011. The show runs through Sunday!

3. The 28th annual Mermaid Parade is tomorrow!

The Mermaid Parade is the nation’s largest art parade & pays homage to Coney Island’s forgotten Mardi Gras which lasted from 1903 to 1954. And afterwards, Coney Island USA is pleased to present the 9th Annual Mermaid Parade Ball, the official after-party of the Mermaid Parade, held at The New York Aquarium from 7:00pm-11:30pm.

4. 88 Pianos, One City!

Free pop-up street pianos return to New York City starting tomorrow.  Look for the 88 pianos to return, through July 2.

5. Children’s Day at the South Street Seaport!

Tomorrow is Children’s Day at the South Street Seaport!  Kids can meet their favorite storybook characters like Clifford the Big Red Dog, Curious George and Madeline. It all ends with the spectacular Target Fireworks! That starts at noon.

6. Glee Live in Concert

Also on Saturday, Glee Live in Concert comes to the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale.

7. The 10th annual River to River Festival begins on Sunday! 

The River To River Festival is Lower Manhattan’s largest FREE summer arts festival featuring music, film, dance, theatre, art and play elements in a variety of public venues that canvases the beautiful backdrop of Downtown New York-from Chambers Street down to Battery Park and across the island from the Hudson River to the East River. That runs through July 16th.

8. 38th Annual Harlem Skyscraper Cycling Classic!

Sunday is the 38th Annual Harlem Skyscraper Cycling Classic.  It’s the only professional bike race in NYC! The landmark event marks a unique opportunity for professional, amateur, and child cyclists to converge on the streets of Harlem in a day-long celebration filled with competitive, high-speed racing; music, food; and family entertainment. That starts at noon.

9. Bye, Bye Christie!

And on Sunday, Christie Brinkley ends her run as Roxie Hart on Broadway in Chicago.

10. California Dreams!

Also on Sunday, [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Katy Perry[/lastfm] brings her California Dreams Tour to the Prudential Center!

11. 21st annual Broadway Bares!

Sunday is the 21st annual Broadway Bares, featuring 200 of Broadway’s most delectable dancers!  All proceeds from the evening go to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS!  That’s at the Roseland Ballroom at 9:30 p.m. and midnight.

12. Sports!

And in sports, the Brooklyn Cyclones are playing the Staten Island Yankees all weekend long.  And also, the Mets are playing the Angels all weekend long!
