With her amazingly powerful voice, soul chantuese, ex-American Idol competitor, and Academy Award winning Actress, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”] Jennifer Hudson[/lastfm] no doubt knows a thing or two about love.
Upon release of her sophomore album, I Remember Me, this March, Hudson has tons of love songs to choose from, so we curated a list of our favorite Ten Love Songs By Jennifer Hudson.
Maybe she will perform one at her free streaming Live on Letterman concert from the Ed Sullivan Theater on June 13th? Check out the entire concert, live right here!
[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Alicia Keys[/lastfm] and her husband/producer[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”] Swizz Beatz[/lastfm] helped Hudson pen this angelic love song from her new album. We wonder if they wrote it to each other?
There’s no way that I’m/Ever goin’ back again/Heaven’s in your arms/Got me until the end
9. “No One Gonna Love You”
This borderline obsessive love song makes us for slightly insane lyrics with a funky back beat:
I saw the burning that you gave me/Don’t care what your ex do/Ain’t nobody love you like I’m gonna love you/Ain’t no one gonna love you, like I’m gonna love you/And if you dare, don’t dare/Send me straight to voice mail/Baby I’m just gonna text you/Hope it ain’t no issue, I just gotta let you/Know no one to love you like I’m gonna love you!
8. “Don’t Look Down”
It’s not love if it’s not a rollercoaster of emotions and Hudson seems to have a fondness for expressing this in her love songs:
Oh, that’s the way love goes/Love it takes you up, it takes you down, got you going all around/Oh, that’s the way our love goes
7. “Love You, I Do” from Dreamgirls
The beginning to this clip from Dreamgirls is so cute it had us cracking up at work. The song is a nice showcase for Hudson’s sassy soulful singing style, as well:
Never met a man/Quite like you/Doin’ all he can/Makin’ my dreams come true/You’re strong and you’re smart/You’ve taken my heart/And I’ll give you the rest of me too/You’re the perfect man for me/I love you, I do/Mmmmm I love ya
6. “If This Isn’t Love”
Nobody is perfect, but sometimes in the “honeymoon phase” of a relationship, people can seem that way. It seems Hudson is on a little angelic honeymoon, much like her song “Angel” from above:
God sent me an angel up from above/That’s gonna love me for life/Might as well be perfect/Only because it’s the only way/I can describe
5. “We Gon’ Fight”
This song has some of our favorite J-Hud lyrics of all, mostly because they are super realistic. Nothing is more exciting than the “break-up to make-up” part of a passionate love affair:
Can’t nobody tell me bout this here (oh no)/Now let me make it clear (I won’t)/Let ever thing we’ve done in the name of us (us)/Done in the name of love (love)/Be nothing/So I’m a fight for you/You gone fight for me/I’m a fight for you/That’s how it’s gone be/We gon’ fight
4. “Still Here”
This isn’t necessarily a romantic love song, but not all songs about “love” have to be. This touching song is seemingly written for someone whom you have loved and lost:
It’s because of you I knew how it felt to be loved, oh/You made me feel beautiful cause you believed I was/And I will never forget how you touched my life/You made me feel like I belonged/You’ll live on
3. “Everybody Needs Love”
We’re not sure we’d wave our hands in the air to proclaim we were looking for love. That might seem sort of desperate. But the sentiment is spot on. Everybody does need love!
Everybody, everybody/Somebody who needs love!/If you want it, you can get it/Just trust, we need love!/Wave your hands in the air/Sweet love, I need love!/I need love!
2. “You Pulled Me Through”
Whether this song is for a lover, a brother, or a friend, “You Pulled Me Through” is a heartbreaking song about gratitude and pure, unadulterated love.
you gave my faith back/faith was so hard to find/you gave me my life back/you were my lifeline/the love that you gave me/is love that has saved me/your strength is what made me strong/you held me and I held on
1. “All Dressed In Love” from the Sex and the City soundtrack
OK, so we know this song is from Sex and the City: The Movie and it’s sort of silly, but doesn’t it make you want to get all glamorous and go looking for love in all the expensive places?
Don’t forget to come back right here to watch Jennifer Hudson Live on Letterman presented by AT&T on June 13th.
