What's Fresh Around Town for Thursday: Obama Visits NYC!
President Obama will be in town today, paying his respects to the victims of 9/11, visiting with the cities finest, and stopping by the World Trade Center. We’ve got his itinerary in today’s list of What’s Fresh Around Town with Jim and Kim!
1. As we mentioned above, President Obama is in town today to make his first presidential visit to the World Trade Center. He’ll be arriving at JFK at 10:30AM and afterward will meet with members of the NYPD, FDNY, and Port Authority. At around 1:25PM, he will be laying a wreath at Ground Zero in honor of the 9/11victims. Afterward, the President will be meeting with 50 of the victims families.
2. Happy Cinco De Mayo! The city will be having it’s annual Cinco De Mayo Festival! The festival brings thousands of people together each year, with two stages of live music, traditional Mexican food, and folklore. Added bonus, it’s FREE! The festivities kick off at 10AM and will end around 5PM. The festival is held at East 116th Street, between 2nd and Lexington.
3. The American Cancer Society‘s 6th Annual Taste of Hope event will be taking place this evening, at 7:30PM. The event will offer an open bar and food. All proceeds from Taste of Hope go toward the goal of eliminating cancer, once and for all. The annual event will be taking place at 82 Mercer. 4. In sports, the Mets continue their series against the Giants this afternoon, at 1:10PM.
