Sunday is the first day of May and it’s also the Five Boro Bike Tour. More than 30,000 bicyclists will take part over the 42 mile route.
2. Saturday is the 2011 Tribeca Family Festival Street Fair and Tribeca/ESPN Sports Day.
The Festival stages will feature special performances from Broadway shows like Wicked, Million Dollar Quartet, Broadway Kids Care along with emerging talent from Tribeca. Check out some of your favorite athletes from the NY Knicks, NY Rangers and NY Liberty, plus the mascots, dance teams and sports personalities. Local restaurants and merchants will offer Tribeca’s finest foods, refreshments, and merchandise. And local schools will sponsor a variety of fundraising activities, from taekwondo lessons to hairspray painting. That’s from 10am to 6pm on Greenwich street.
3. A Beautiful Mind
Also on Saturday, The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation presents a special 10th anniversary screening of Universal Pictures’ A Beautiful Mind followed by a conversation with director Ron Howard and others as part of the Tribeca Film Festival’s Tribeca Talks at 3pm.
4. 76th Annual NFL draft continues at Radio City Music Hall both today and tomorrow!
The second and third rounds on Fri., April 29 at 6:00 p.m. Rounds 4-7 will be held Sat., April 30 at noon.
5. Also on Sunday, the New Amsterdam Market opens for the season.
Welcome vendors, new and old; enjoy grilled meats & cheeses, and other market fare; purchase flowers, seeds, and budding branches…all in lower Manhattan.
And Sunday is also the 32nd Annual Antique Auto Show from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Queens County Museum.
7. Irish Dance Festival
Sunday is the 10th Annual Irish Arts Center New York City Irish Dance Festival! It’s all a part of the “Summer on the Hudson” series of events. Join in on the fun with live music, workshops in traditional Irish dance for all skill levels, a singer’s circle, Irish language classes, face-painting, children’s craft table and more! That’s at 1pm in Riverside Park South.
Also in sports, the Yankees are playing the Blue Jays all weekend long!
