Continuing our coverage of the Grammy Awards, today the Last.fm Trends team takes a look at the nominees for the coveted Record Of The Year award.
Featuring some of the biggest records of the year, the award is a true testament to a song’s success. Last.fm Trends takes a look at how the songs have scrobbled amongst our users to see if there’s a clear front runner.
The award’s a good reflection on the sounds that have defined the past year in music. This year it is the artists Lady Antebellum, B.o.B, Eminem, Cee Lo Green and Jay-Z who will battle it out.

In many ways it’s been a big year for collaborations: three of the five nominees for Record Of The Year are collaborations, namely Bruno Mars appearing with B.o.B, Rihanna singing with Eminem and Alicia Keys with Jay-Z.
The two songs that have proved most popular amongst Last.fm listeners in the nominee list are “Love The Way You Lie” and “Empire State Of Mind” boasting 4,551,298 and 3,543,268 scrobbles respectively.
It is interesting to note that despite having over 1,000,000 extra scrobbles, “Love The Way You Lie” has fewer listeners, with 319,933 compared to 375,865, suggesting that the song has been more of a hit with hardcore Eminem fans.
Cee Lo Green’s “F*** You”, which was released in the summer, has done well to reach the same scrobble levels as B.o.B’s “Nothin’ On You” and Lady Antebellum’s “Need To Know” which were both released in the early part of 2010.
However if Last.fm scrobble counts are anything to go by, it seems a given that the winner of Record Of The Year will go to either Eminem or Jay-Z – two of the biggest names in music.
