The Great White Way is about to get all sorts of bloody.
The recent trend on Broadway is converting movies to stage. Think Spiderman, Elf, Tarzan, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Mary Poppins, High Fidelity, Monty Python, Young Frankenstein, Legally Blonde, The Wedding Singer, and about a dozen more. You get the idea. Well the next film-to-stage adaptation to find a home on Broadway is none other than the super bloody American Psycho.
Oh yes, it will be set to music.
The show will be based on the novel by Bret Easton Ellis, which was made into a film starring Christian Bale in 2000. The show has reportedly been in the works since 2008 and music will be provided by Spring Awakening composer/90s pop star [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Duncan Sheik[/lastfm].
The script will be written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who told Page Six, “There are murders, and they are on stage in full view of the audience… An ax and a chef’s knife will be used. I think there’s going to be a lot of blood.”
Sweet, get me a raincoat and sign me up! There aren’t enough murders set to music, that’s what I always say.
