The Haitian-American musician, who currently serves as ambassador for the country, has been long rumored as a potential cadidate for the 2010 election, and yesterday’s cryptic press release from his family seemed to signal that Jean is definitely, possibly considering standing. Maybe.
Last.fm Trends took a look at his most popular tracks. He might not be elected on scrobbles, but it can’t hurt to see how popular he really is among listeners…
With 4,207,339 scrobbles from 371,525 listeners so far, Wyclef Jean scrobbles healthily among Last.fm listeners. His scrobbles increased after the Haitian earthquake disaster brought the artist, and the Yele charity he has worked hard to promote, right into the heart of the relief effort. His top tracks come largely from his 2000 album The Ecleftic: 2 Sides II a Book, including chart smash “Gone Till November” and “911“.
Meanwhile it’s “FU-GEE-LA“, “Killing Me Softly” and “Ready Or Not” that top the charts of Fugees most played tracks. The latter, sat at the top with 847,544 Scrobbles and 216,515 listeners still picks up 4,000 Last.fm listeners every single week.
Last.fm Trends wish Jean, and all of the eventual candidates, the best of luck. We’ll be sure to count the scrobbles when the votes come in, if he does make a presidential bid.
